thanks, Virgin America

Booking a flight on Virgin America: I'm about to confirm and pay. Would I like to join their loyalty program, which doesn't yet exist but which someday may provide some meager membership benefits before the airline inevitably goes bankrupt or is absorbed by a larger carrier? Sure, why not.

I'll tell you why not: because as soon as I'm done I'll be told that my previously locked-in reservation has expired, that making the same one will now cost 33% more, and I'll get a busy signal when I call their 800 number to complain. Go to hell, Branson.

This is disheartening as I prepare to board a Virgin Atlantic flight in 24 hours.

Nah, I hear the flights themselves are great. They have Doom! Although that's the America line, not Atlantic.

Doom is a bit of a stretch on Virgin America. Rather than 24 frames per second, it runs just below the cusp of being tolerably playable. Yes, you CAN play it, but a DS or PSP is a much better experience. Oh, and it takes the poor Linux client over a minute to load or exit Doom.

In-seat food ordering is the wave of the future though.
